Life's plain, common work

Having breakfast with my buddy at 6am.

Playing "parking lot".

I found this quote here and just had to share it today.

The best things in life are nearest:
Breath in your nostrils,
light in your eyes,
flowers at your feet,
duties at your hand,
the path of right just before you.
Then do not grasp at the stars,
but do life's plain, common work as it comes,
certain that daily duties and daily bread
are the sweetest things in life.
~Robert Louis Stevenson

I'm quite certain that God is calling me to appreciate His simple "daily bread" this week.  Not only did I have some great time of reflection in Sonoma, but the sermon I heard yesterday shot straight to the heart.  Then I read the above quote this morning and it finally clicked.  Today's bread is plenty. Life's plain, common work is something to savor and dwell comfortably in.

I'm still digging through all my photos from Sonoma (quite the opposite of the plain common life).  But sometimes it takes stepping out of your everyday to realize how special it really is.

So true! I feel that way about my kids. Time with them is so short... they grow fast. Sometimes it is easy to get bogged down with all that raising children encompasses, but instead I am choosing to soak it up. They will be young adult far too soon!
Hugs! Can't wait to see your pics!

I'm so glad I read this today, I'm going to hang it in my kitchen. So easy for me to sometimes get caught up in silly things that don't matter. What a meaningful post.
