Last weekend at the Influence Conference, I was introduced to a non-profit that gripped my heart from the instant I heard about them. fashionABLE works with women in Africa who have been exploited due to the effects of poverty. So, when you purchase one of their beautiful scarves, you are providing support to create a sustainable trade for these women. All the profits go back to the rehabilitation, counseling and employment of women who are otherwise forced into prostitution and abuse in order to provide for their families.
I can't look away from this. I have such a heart for impoverished mothers in the world who don't have the resources or education that I do. No matter where you live in this world, every mother is linked by our common love for our children. As a mother, I would do anything to protect and provide the basic needs of my children. I get it. It's an instinct that grips you to the core. So my heart was stunned at the thought of what these women have to go through in order to provide food for their precious babies.
I want to do my part to help. I bought this gorgeous scarf called "Feleku" named after the woman who made it. Read about her story here. And read through the other stories of the women that have been rescued from the cycle of poverty and sexual abuse. I plan to buy many more for my friends and family as Christmas gifts this year.

But guess what.... I bought one for one of you too!

I am giving away this Feleku scarf! It's the same style as the one I'm wearing above but it's in a color called 'Mediterranean Blue'. Trust me, it was hard to decide which one to keep and which one to give away!

Each scarf comes with a tag handwritten by the creator that states how this organization has helped her. This tag reads, "Because of fashionABLE, I am able to face new challenges. Thank you, Feleku."
And check our their business model. It says that the fashionABLE mission is to create sustainable business in Africa so that the women are not dependent upon charity, but instead are a vital part of a developing economy.

It's not just charity, it's efforts to create on-going, sustainable economic strides. And furthermore, it restores some dignity and helps to create new life for these women. All this by buying a beautiful scarf? Yes please!
To enter to win the scarf, simply leave a comment on this post.
Winner will be announced on Monday, Oct. 29th!
I would then challenge you to, 1) Visit the fashionABLE website to learn more about them, and 2) Buy a few scarves as Christmas gifts this year, and 3) Share with friends & family about what this organization is doing!

That is a great company. I will be checking it out.
Hey Bri, So excited about this post and as always love your blog. I especially love the direction your taking it! Thanks for the fun give away....hope I win :)
TEST.
I saw the ad for your giveaway on Pinterest, and immediately headed over to your blog excitedly. I love reading about how people have discovered FashionABLE, and are promoting it. I have been a fan since its inception in October of 2010, buying the original scarf, now known as Bezuayhu Pink. I've been buying scarves for friends, family and myself ever since. I was even more excited when I noticed that the scarf you plan to give away is the Feluku Mediterranean Blue. I've been in scarf lust over that previously "retailer exclusive" that my local FashionABLE retailer did not carry.
I just wanted to take the time to tell you how grateful I am to know that others believe in this very important cause, and are using their platforms to get the word out. I have told, and continue to tell my friends about this wonderful organization that gives women in Africa opportunities instead of a handout. Unfortunately, I do not have as big of a platform as others do. It does not make my efforts of any less importance, but it is good to know that I am part of something bigger, and that the organization is getting the press and spotlight it deserves.
I love these! I've been looking to order one for this amazing cause forever and FINALLY just ordered my first one or many I'm sure!
What an awesome idea! Thanks so much for sharing!
I love your thoughts on loving and forgiveness, etc.
I would love to win this scarf! I've been so impressed by FashionABLE and what they stand for.

I love the idea of being a smart shopper and supporting great causes. I just got home from my third trip to Haiti last week. I wish the women in Haiti would be able to have a fresh new start.

Wow what an awesome company/program. This is an amazing idea for Christmas gifts or hostess gifts that are a lot more special than just a plain scarf.
You know I'm a huge fan of buying with the purpose of not just giving a gift, but supporting a great cause! Especially when Africa is attached to it! ;) (must I remind you of my SLIGHT obsession of Ugandan necklaces??!!) ;)
Miss u.
